The Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of using atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
The signing ceremony took place on the eve of the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Tashkent. The signature under the document was put by the general director of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev and the president of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Bekhzod Yuldashev.
It is envisaged “to develop cooperation in such areas as the creation and development of nuclear infrastructure in Uzbekistan, the development of programs to raise public awareness of nuclear technologies and their application.”
It is also planned to create appropriate information centers, conduct fundamental and applied research in nuclear physics, use radioisotopes and radiation technologies in industry, medicine, agriculture and other fields.
The company notes that the parties intend to sign a standard framework intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
