The CEC conducts a two-day republican seminar-training

republican_seminarA two-day republican seminar organized by the Central Election Commission (CEC) for chairperson and members of the district electoral commissions on presidential elections, as well as heads of the territorial press centers started in Tashkent.

The seminar is attended by members of the CEC, national experts on election law, representatives of political parties and the media.

The event is aimed at further raising the awareness of members of district election commissions on the national electoral legislation and its practical application, the discussion of various aspects of the organization of the activity of election commissions for the preparation and conduct of elections, standing before the election commissions of the urgent tasks for the preparation and conduct of elections.

The Chairman of the CEC Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov noted, that our country is on the eve of important political event of the year – the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Democratic rule of law and fair civil society is impossible without democratic and fair elections, which are manifested plurality of different opinions, aspirations and hopes of the people.

The most important feature of the national electoral system is functioning independent system of election commissions, providing organization and conduct of elections on the basis of openness and transparency in full compliance with the requirements of the law. The activity of the CEC focused on the organization and conduct of elections on the basis of democratic principles, providing for voters necessary conditions for their free will.

In accordance with article 117 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Law “On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” the elections are held on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot. Hereby all citizens of the Republic above the age of 18 have the right to elect.

The two-day workshop will be devoted to presentations on the essence and significance of recent changes and additions to the national electoral legislation, the interaction of the electoral commissions, political parties, international electoral standards, guarantees of electoral rights of citizens, openness and transparency of the elections, the role of the Institute of observers in the electoral process and many other aspects regarding the preparation and conduct of the upcoming elections.

Workshop participants will become familiar with the activities of the national press center on the coverage of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
