Festive events dedicated to the Day of Memory and Honor were held also in Samarkand region.

According to archival information, more than 152 thousand Samarkand people participated in the Second World War. 73 thousand of them did not return home. On the Square of Memory in Samarkand, the names of more than 48,500 people of the city, who died in the war, are engraved.

Today, 97 participants of the Second World War live in the city, they are surrounded by attention and care of the state and people. According to the decree of the President, they were given monetary rewards in the amount of 5 million sums and valuable gifts. Khokimiyats of districts, cities and regions, state and public organizations of Samarkand are paying special attention to veterans of war and labor.

On May 9, the Square of Memory in Samarkand was crowded as never before. Representatives of the khokimiyat of Samarkand region, the command of the Central Military District, law enforcement agencies, heads of state and public organizations, participants of the Second World War, labor veterans, youth, representatives of the general public gathered here.

Led by the khokim of Samarkand region T.Jurayev, they laid flowers at the monument of Sorrowful Mother, remembered those who gave their lives for today’s peaceful life.

The events continued at Kuksaroy Square.

The command of the Central Military District organized an exhibition of military equipment and weapons on the square. Veterans tasted dishes cooked in the field kitchen, watched theatrical performances.

Within the framework of the event, a marathon and a cycling marathon with participation of youth and veterans were held from Registan Square to the University Alley.
