On the day of his birth, the Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan, composer and conductor Mustafo Bafoev decided to meet with friends, colleagues and admirers of his creativity. The grand hall of the State Conservatory of the country hosted a concert dedicated to his 70th jubilee.

Creativity of Mustafo Bafoev strikes with the breadth of ideas, themes, plots, and images his compositions cover. His works reflect the multifaceted picture of the historical past of the peoples of Central Asia. The image of the native Bukhara runs through the opuses of the composer.

He is attracted by the musical culture of the East with its variety of local styles, special embellishment of melodies, and peculiar rhythm. At the same time Mustafo Bafoev freely uses modern techniques and methods of development, got formed in the western school of composition. Organic synthesis of various strata of musical cultures and traditions allowed him to not only create striking and original compositions, but also to develop their own and well-recognizable style.

Rich melodic talent, subtle sense of rhythm, deep knowledge of musical instruments makes the works of the composer imaginatively and emotionally expressive, clear and easily understood by very diverse audience. However, this external lightness hides a complex musical and technical, compositional, dramatic components, which often present difficulties for performers, requiring from them to continuously improve their mastery of playing and singing.

Mustafo Bafoev is one of the few composers working in almost all existing genres. Among several hundred of his works there are major works – opera, oratorio, musical dramas, symphonies, concertos, and chamber instrumental and vocal works, as well as music for films and plays. Being always in a creative search, the composer is not afraid to create something completely new and different. And his works written in the original synthetic genres include teleopera-epos, teleballet, opera-ballet, opera-extravaganza.

In the concert the master presented the audience his new works. The concert program was opened by a cycle of pieces “Seven Anecdotes of Nasreddin Afandi” for symphony orchestra, in which the composer showed seven regions with a variety of local styles. Then the Third Violin Concerto was premiered – one-part virtuoso work, based on a single theme of oriental character. Bоth works were performed by the National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the laureate of international contests Alibek Kabdurahmanov. Sardor Jumayev performed solo violin part. The final chord of the festive evening was another premiere – the fantasy ‘Triumph of Amir Temur’ for timpani and orchestra, brilliantly presented by Alibek Kabdurahmanov, this time as a performer on the timpani, and a symphonic orchestra under the baton of Gayrat Abrarov.

There is no doubt that the jubilee concert of Mustafo Bafoev is just another milestone in the life of the composer, and very soon we will be able to get acquainted with new works of the master, as rich and interesting as all of his works.
