The present and future of ICT industries in Uzbekistan

On May 22, 2018, a conference of the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications Development of Uzbekistan # MITCROADMAP2018 was held at INHA University in Tashkent.

During the event, important points of the Roadmap for the cardinal improvement of the information and communication technologies system for 2018-2019, problems and prospects for the development of the ICT industry, IT education, and interaction between the state and business were discussed.

Minister of Information Technologies and Communications Development Azim Ahmedkhadjayev told about present and future of ICT sector in Uzbekistan. He introduced the new corporate style of the Ministry to the conference participants, announced the name of the new Internet channel dedicated to IT technologies, and presented a new strategy for the development of the Electronic Government system – SMART Government Uzbekistan.

The head of JSC “Uzbektelecom” Farhod Roziev informed the participants about the way the national operator will proceed to his transformation. Achieving this goal, he supported the 7-month plan for the implementation of important and long-awaited projects, such as the expansion of the international Internet site in 10 times.

An important role at the conference was allocated to the sector IT education. In this context, the rector of INHA University in Tashkent Sarvar Babakhodjaev talked about how to prepare an innovative generation, voiced the solution of the problem of expensive contracts at Inha University in Tashkent. Farkhod Ibragimov, director of the Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center, Hikmat Abdurakhmanov, chairman of the International Business and Technology Association (AMBiT), as well as the consultant of the Ministry of Finance on drafting legislation, the head of the Russian Post (1999-2004), Evgeny Birger, presented their decisions on improvement of the ICT industry. On the agenda of their speeches there were questions of creating co-working centers around the country, increasing the export of IT services with the help of residents of Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center, which are already 319.

The number of participants in the conference exceeded 400 people. Among the guests there are representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in our country, ministries, departments, business community, mobile operators, Internet providers, residents of Mirzo Ulugbek Innovtion Center, gifted students of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies. Muhammad al-Khorazmiy and Inha University in Tashkent. One can not but note the active participation of representatives of the public – journalists, specialists in the sphere, as well as other indifferent citizens of the country who registered on a specially created page on the website of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
