The Prosecutor General’s Office reveals some details of the riots

AIMC hosted a briefing with the participation of the Prosecutor of a Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abror Mamatov. Information was provided on the consequences of the riots that occurred in the Republic of Karakalpakstan on July 1 this year.

On July 2, 2022, at 14:45, about 300 people from Nukus district moved towards the city of Nukus and, disobeying the lawful demands of law enforcement officers, stole special equipment (walkie-talkies, batons, helmets, stun grenades, protective shields) from 50 employees of the National Guard, serving at a checkpoint in the city of Nukus.

On this day, unknown people organized an attack on a military post in the Khojeyli district, where weapons were seized. The Nukus International Airport, the Rehabilitation Center where administrative detainees are kept, and the building of the Nukus Department of Internal Affairs were attacked.

During the riots, a MAN truck with state number 40 L 340 QA near the Las Vegas cafe in the city of Nukus, a KamAZ truck with state number 01 267 UFA, a wagon belonging to the “Ismoilov Jabbor-Bergan” farm, were burned.

The bridge over the Dustlik canal near the Nukus city sports complex, many buildings and road barriers in Nukus were heavily damaged.
