The legend of gymnastics, seven-time participant of the Summer Olympics Oksana Chusovitina has established one more unique achievement – she became the only one in this sport who continues to perform after joining the International Hall of Fame.
Her inclusion in the International Hall of Fame took place during the 21st annual ceremony on Saturday in Oklahoma City (USA).
Oksana Chusovitina was born in 1975 in Bukhara. Having started her career in 1990 in the Soviet team, she continues to perform to this day. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, as part of the United team, the athlete became the Olympic champion in the team championship. Later, she played for the national teams of Uzbekistan and Germany. On her account, a silver medal of 2008 Olympics in the base jump, she won three world championships, became the champion of Europe and the Asian Games. She is also the only person in the history of gymnastics (recorded in the Guinness Book of Records), who took part in seven Summer Olympics (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016).
Several elements gymnastics performed by her for the first time were named after her. Among them – a flip flop forward with a 360° turn and a flip forward – a back flip forward bending with a turn of 540°.
In total, for the last twenty years, 91 athletes from 22 countries of the world entered the International Hall of Fame, which was founded in 1987.
