Uzbek FM receives UN Secretary General’s Special Representative

On March 30, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative, the head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalia Gherman.

Natalia Gherman, who participated with the UN delegation at the international conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity”, congratulated the leadership of Uzbekistan on successful holding of the Tashkent forum. As she noted, the unanimous adoption of the final declaration of the conference is a reflection of support of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the Afghan settlement aimed at the long-term perspective.

During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on the actual aspects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNRCCA.

Uzbek Foreign Minister supported the efforts of the United Nations and personally the Secretary-General on addressing transboundary water problems in Central Asia, including the draft conventions on the use of water resources in Amudarya and Syrdarya basins developed by the UNRCCA.

Other issues on the regional agenda were also discussed at the meeting.
