At the general meeting of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) that took place on October 26, 2014 in Muscat, Oman, 46 more members of the academy were announced. Among them is our compatriot Ibrohim Abdurahmonov, director of the Center of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

During his speech, TWAS President Bai Chunli noted that this year 178 nominees have been considered for the academy membership. And only 46 of them became members.

It is not the only high recognition of merits of Ibrohim Abdurahmonov.

He earned high accolades after the development in collaboration with his colleagues from the University of Texas and the US Ministry of Agriculture of a technology of ‘knockout’ of genes (RNA interference) of cotton, as well as its practical implementation. Applying this technology, it was managed to get high-quality, long-stapled, high-yield and fast-ripening cultivars of cotton.
