Uzbekistan and South Korea Presidents discuss the preparation of a new economic agenda for strategic partnership

On September 19, during the session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol.

The presidents discussed further strengthening special strategic partnership and enhancing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

The consistent development of bilateral ties, based on historical ties of friendship, similar mentality, traditions, and values, was noted with satisfaction.

The President of Uzbekistan focused on forming a new economic agenda for strategic partnership with the Republic of Korea.

In recent years, mutual trade and investment indicators have been steadily growing. Last year, trade turnover increased by 24 percent. There are about a thousand joint ventures in Uzbekistan. The volume of Korean investments has exceeded $7 billion.

The long-term fruitful partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and its funds, whose total portfolio of projects amounts to more than $3 billion, was highly appreciated.

At the meeting, priority areas for practical interaction were identified – expanding technological and investment partnerships with leading South Korean companies, accelerating socially significant programs in education and healthcare, promoting joint projects in infrastructure and green energy, digitalization, personnel training, and other areas.

Following the talks, the President of Uzbekistan invited the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan.
