Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Moon Jae-in attended the opening ceremony of Uzbekistan – South Korea business forum.
Uzbekistan and South Korea are long-term investment partners. The volume of Korean investments attracted to the economy of Uzbekistan exceeded 7 billion dollars. Korea National Oil Corporation, Eximbank, many leading companies of this country, including Kogas, Lotte Group, Samsung, Hyundai, Shindong Resources, are actively involved in implementation of priority investment projects.
The Head of the state noted that at the negotiations held in Kuksaroy, main attention was paid to supporting relations between business people of the two countries, developing medium and small business.
– The reforms and transformations implemented in Uzbekistan today open up broad opportunities for confident implementation of ambitious ideas and large projects. Last year, the number of joint ventures in the country increased by 3 times. Among them are 160 enterprises with Korean capital participation. We are ready to continue creating the most favorable conditions for expanding the presence of Korean business in Uzbekistan, – Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in noted that since ancient times Uzbekistan has been a center of trade, science and culture. Today there are wide opportunities for joint business projects. He expressed the readiness of South Korea to support investment projects in Uzbekistan and share best practices.
The forum, held at NEC Uzexpocentre, was attended by heads of economic and financial institutions, leading companies of the two countries, including more than 350 representatives of 150 companies and organizations of South Korea.
Issues of expanding investment cooperation, development and implementation of new projects, supply of goods and provision of services were discussed.
Important arrangements were made and agreements worth over 12 billion dollars were signed at the business forum. They cover such areas and industries as energy, oil and gas, chemical, mining, mechanical and electrical engineering, transport and logistics, textile and light industry, infrastructure, ICT, digital medicine. Agreements on the transfer of Angren Economic Zone to the authority of Incheon Free Economic Zone, on establishment of marketable drugs production in Bustonliq Pharm Industrial Zone are of particular importance.
The President of Uzbekistan called on representatives of the Korean business to actively use the new opportunities created in Uzbekistan’s economy.
