On September 20, International Conference on “Central Asia in the system of international transport corridors: strategic perspectives and unrealized opportunities” kicked off in Tashkent.
The international forum, organized at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aroused great interest not only among the countries of the region, but the entire international community. It was attended by more than 300 guests from 37 countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, representatives of 25 international organizations, financial institutions and leading transport companies.

The Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov read the greeting of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the participants of the international conference.
At the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the UN General Assembly adopted in June this year a special resolution on “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region”. This document focuses on issues of development of transport infrastructure and transit corridors, strengthening interaction of all modes of transport by creating new road, rail and air routes.
Uzbekistan is implementing a policy of strengthening geostrategic importance of Central Asia through integration of transport and transit opportunities of the region’s countries.

The international conference plays an important role in discussing issues of improving the existing and formation of new transport corridors in Central Asia, developing common views and approaches in this sphere, defining plans for the future.
The conference continued its work in sectional meetings. Opinions and initiatives in the greeting of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as issues related to the introduction of information technologies, digital services in the spheres of road, rail and air transport were widely discussed.
The need for intensifying efforts on developing transport and communication networks of the region’s countries, new investment projects in transport and logistics, introducing multimodal transportation, creating favorable conditions for multilateral and long-term cooperation was noted.

Participants of the conference positively assessed the cooperation of the Central Asian countries in development of road, air and rail transport and noted the important role of partnership between state bodies and business entities.
It was noted that such forums have an important place in development of international cooperation in transport and transit.
Following the conference, a communiqué and a number of protocols were signed.
