On 3-11 October 2016 in Geneva the delegations of Uzbekistan has attended in the 56th series of meetings of the Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Our information: the WIPO, created in 1967, is an agency of the UN system, involving in policy, strengthen cooperation, provision of services and information in the field of intellectual property. It includes 189 countries, with headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland).
In the framework of the event the Uzbek delegation has met with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry.
Expressing satisfaction with the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and WIPO, the head of the Organization has expressed interest in further strengthening of the comprehensive cooperation.
During the meeting it was positively noted taken measures in our country on the development of the intellectual property sphere, improvement of the legal framework, examination and registration of objects in this area. Under the leadership of the first President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan sphere of intellectual property in the country rose to a qualitatively new level of development, becoming an integral part of an innovative way of development of the republic. In 1996, Islam Karimov was awarded the highest award – “WIPO Gold Medal” for his contribution to the development of the intellectual property system in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek delegation also conducted a number of other meetings in the Secretariat and representatives of foreign delegations, during which the sides discussed prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in this area.
