Women’s committee holds forum

societyThe Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan has conducted a republican forum “The most virtuous girls of neighbourhoods” in the palace of youth creativity.

The forum held under the slogan “12-year compulsory education is for my happy future” was attended by members of “Virtuous girls” clubs, teachers, morality propagators, consultants on issues of religious enlightenment and spiritual-moral education and active women.

The Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan is conducting large-scale work aimed at ensuring that all girls benefit from 12-year free and uninterrupted education, at providing care about their health and at widely attracting them to physical training and sport so that they display their talent and potential.

“Virtuous girls” clubs were established at educational institutions in the country in 2011. Their aim is to ensure young people’s healthy lifestyle, to raise their ecological and medical culture, to prevent early marriages, to prepare women for independent family life and to help them realize the sanctity of marriage and family values. The work of these clubs have not only medical direction. Ideological enlightenment work is also carried out in them, which helps to raise girls’ socio-political activeness and increase their feelings of responsibility for their family, society and the Motherland.

The Year of Maternal and Child Health state programme specifies the following tasks as important: stepping up the work of “Virtuous girls” clubs, raising girls’ legal awareness and medical culture, their professional training, their upbringing in the spirit of respect for national values and regard for the older generation, shielding them from ideological attacks and forming communication and clothing cultures.

“The most virtuous girls of neighbourhoods” contest is directed precisely at these. The regional and town stages of the contest took place in July-August. More than 250 thousand girls took part in them. 8-9th grade students of general education schools, academic lyceums and vocational colleges had been invited to the contest.

During “Virtuous girls” contests in localities, detailed talks were given on the significance of reforms for young people, large-scale events in the spiritual sphere and principles of healthy lifestyle maintenance.

“Today there are all the necessary conditions in our country for girls’ education, engagement in sport and the learning of modern professions,” says a 9th grade student of general education school No 22 in Baghdod District of Farghona Region, Dilyorakhon Turghunboyeva.

193 girls in 14 teams took part in the republican stage of the contest. The teams displayed their knowledge of the Year of Maternal and Child Health state programme, the state youth policy and the scale and significance of care being provided for women as well as the development of children’s sports.

E.Basitkhanova, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and chairperson of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, made a speech at the event.
