transparency06.08.2014 In Namangan it was held a talk at the “round table” on the role of the media in the coverage of the preparations for the elections, reports UzA.

The event, organized in conjunction with the Namangan Regional Branch of the Independent Institute to monitor the formation of civil society, regional administration of press and information department of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan, attended by the heads of regional councils of political parties, editors of state and independent media.

It was noted that consistently democratic reforms implemented under the leadership of the President of our country on the principle “From a strong state – to a strong civil society” have been yielding good results. As an important guide for action in this case serve the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On guarantees of electoral rights of citizens”, “On elections for the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and other regulations.

Emphasized that supporting the organization of the elections on the basis of the principles of transparency, openness and objectivity is a challenging task. In publicizing the importance of elections in the socio-political life of our country, preparation for them, especially national practice and international experience in this field, the media has become one of the active participants in the electoral process.

At the event there was an exchange of views on the tasks set out in the program of activities for the preparation and holding of elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional, district and city councils of people’s deputies in 2014 of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan which was adopted on 12 May this year, as well as changes and additions made to the electoral laws of the country.
