Uzbekistan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister A. Abdukhakimov continues its participation in the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, in Baku.Negotiations were held with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Mechtild Rössler, Deputy Director of the Centre Jyoti Hosagrahar, as well as representatives of member states of the World Heritage Committee.
The parties noted the importance of protecting cultural heritage of the country, measures taken on preservation and conservation of historical objects, as well as development of tourism and education. They presented new opportunities for cooperation to strengthen relations between the parties.
Representatives of the Committee appreciated the course taken to strengthen further close cooperation with UNESCO and its structures.
In August 2019, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Samarkand will host International Conference dedicated to preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The purpose of the event, involving participation of a large number of international experts, including UNESCO, as well as national experts and representatives of scientific community, institutions and civil society organizations, is to develop a new vision in addressing protection and conservation of world heritage objects, as well as further support for preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay confirmed her intention to attend the event.
