SPECIAL INDUSTRIAL ZONE “ANGREN”

Attractive Conditions

Weeks before the New Year were very productive in terms of business development in the Angren Special Industrial Zone. Several foreign companies have expressed interest in building new facilities in the zone.

The creation of the second economic zone of Uzbekistan began in April 2012. Large-scale legal and institutional works were done in a short time to organize all the necessary conditions for the creation of the special zone. The Angren Special Industrial Zone will exist for 30 years with the possibility of its further extension.

To attract domestic and foreign investors the zone established special tax and customs regimes. In particular, companies implementing projects here were exempt from income tax, property tax, fees on the development of social infrastructure, the single tax for small businesses, and from the mandatory contributions to the National Road Fund. In addition, they received exemption from customs duties on equipment, components and materials imported in the country for their own needs. These privileges and preferences are granted for a period from 3 to 7 years depending on the amount of capital allocated in the projects. When a company invests from $300,000 to $3 million the period of exemption is 3 years; if it invests from $3 million to $10 million the period will last for 5 years; investors who give more than $10 million can enjoy exemption for 7 years.

The attractive conditions have already yielded results. Several major projects already launched in Angren Special Industrial Zone. Investor’s interest in the zone is only growing. New factory for the production of gas equipment promises to be one of the most interesting projects. Representatives of Ukrainian companies Alfa Gazpromkomplekt and Industrial Energy Group already showed their interest to this project.

The Belgian company UgentCacaolab, which has more than 15 years old experience in the production of chocolate and confectionery, discusses the possibility of establishing a factory for the production of chocolate of Belgian quality in the zone. Chinese and Korean investors also demonstrate greater interest to open a plant in the Angren Special Industrial Zone.
