Latvian President to pay visit to Uzbekistan
May 27-29, 2014, at the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan the President of Latvia Andris Berzins will arrive in our country on an official visit.
During the visit, the two leaders will discuss the status and prospects of further development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade-economic, cultural, humanitarian and other areas, and will exchange views on important regional and international issues.
The sides are expected to adopt a Joint Statement by the Heads of the two states and to sign a number of Uzbek-Latvian documents on cooperation in various araes.

More than 15 Uzbek-Chinese projects to be implemented in FIZ Jizzakh
Uzbekistan supported the proposed in 2011 initiative of the Chinese government for the establishment of Uzbek-Chinese high-tech industrial park with the participation of Chinese companies.
In March 2013, this park was created in the form of a special industrial zone “Jizzakh” with a branch in the Syrdarya region. Since June 2013 on the territory of the FIZ mobile phones, building materials and other products are already being produced.
This year FIZ “Jizzakh” provides for the implementation of more than 15 collaborativeprojects involving direct investment by Chinese companies of over $50 million, reports UzA.

A Festival of Beauty and Grace
Artistic gymnastics World Cup stage competitions and the international tournament Happy Caravan have kicked off in Tashkent.
The attention of the sports community and admirers of artistic gymnastics is attached these days to our capital city. The World Cup competitions and the Happy Caravan international tournament in gymnastics, organized under the aegis of the International Gymnastics Federation jointly with Uzbekistan Gymnastics Federation, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, have gathered again the strongest gymnasts from many countries of the world.
The official opening ceremony of these eminent contests took place at the Republican Children and Youths Specialized Sports School of the Olympic Reserve in Artistic Gymnastics.
The festively decorated gym is filled with guests, athletes and spectators. Under the sounds of music the participants of the World Cup round and the Happy Caravan international tournament – teams of Uzbekistan, China, South Korea, Japan, United States, Czech Republic, Latvia, South Africa, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Israel, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan – came out to the arena.
The event participants and guests paid honor to the State Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan M.Usmanov and others noted that the development of children’s sports, a principal factor of upbringing under the leadership of President Islam Karimov of girls and boys as physically sound individuals who wield robust will power and high intellectual potential, has turned into a nationwide movement. A special emphasis is placed in this process on the further popularization of women’s sports, including artistic gymnastics, on training promising athletes and highly qualified coaches and on the comprehensive stimulation of them.
Owing to the creation of regional federations and centers for artistic gymnastics, the girls regular in this graceful type of sports have been growing in number. Extensive development of artistic gymnastics in the country not only facilitates physical and spiritual development of girls and young women, but also has an important significance in training athlete girls capable of worthily upholding the honor of the Motherland at the international arena.
“The constant attention being paid in Uzbekistan to the development of many spheres, including sports, especially of children’s and women’s, has been yielding remarkable results,” says Noha Abu Shabana, official of the International Gymnastics Federation. “It is backed by the fact that Tashkent regularly hosts prestigious international competitions in artistic gymnastics as well as the rich experience of Uzbekistan in holding such sporting forums at a high organizational level.”
Indeed, the World Cup stages in gymnastics were successfully held in Tashkent: the Asia championships in 2010 and 2013, and the continental championship in sporting gymnastics in April this year – all a result of the dynamic development of sports in Uzbekistan.
In accordance with a special program worked out as part of the realization of the presidential resolution “On Preparation of Uzbekistan Athletes to the 31st Olympics and 15th Paralympics due 2016 in the City of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil” signed 25 February 2013, Uzbek athletes taking part in competitions in gymnastics types included in the program of Olympics – artistic gymnastics, sports gymnastics and trampoline – have been working hard to perfect their indicators, to earn Olympic tickets, and are aiming to be included in the list of victors and prize winners of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
In the current sporting season, our artistic gymnasts have been displaying high results at prominent competitions. Notably, at the 13th Asian Championship among girls in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, they booked tickets for the 2nd Youth Olympics scheduled for 16-28 August in China’s Nanjing.
Young gymnasts from Uzbekistan also became prize winners of tournaments in the United States, Estonia and Russia.
The World Cup stage in artistic gymnastics that has started in Tashkent, around 80 strongest gymnasts of the world are demonstrating their mastery in single and group exercises with skip rope, hoop, ball, Indian club, ribbon, as well as in all-round events, while more than 40 girls are displaying such skills at the international tournament Happy Caravan.
“We are very glad to take part in the prestigious competitions in Tashkent,” says India national team coach Babra Jasbir Kaur. “The Uzbek school of artistic gymnastics has its rich traditions and famous representatives. The conditions and opportunities created in Uzbekistan to be into artistic gymnastics deserve envy.”
At these eminent competitions the honor of our country is upheld by Jamila Rahmatova, Yelizaveta Nazarenkova, Anora Davlatova, Nilufar Shomurodova and Jasmin Yusupova.
The official opening ceremony of the competitions finished with a festive gala concert.
