Uzbekistan produces 8m tonnes of grain

Farmers of Uzbekistan collected 80 million and 50,000 tonnes of grain, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said in his congratulation message to dehkans and farmers.

In his message, Uzbek leader said that he congratulate farmers and dehkans with achievement of production of 8 million and 50,000 tonnes of grain for the first time.

He said that 23 years ago Uzbekistan imported 5 million grains to meet demands of over 21 million people of the c ountry.

Today, he said that the country fully meets demand of 31- million population of Uzbekistan. In past period, Uzbekistan increased grain production from 940,000 tonnes to 8 million tonnes, while average yield rose from 17 to 55 centners per hectare. Uzbek head said this shows impressive achievements of Uzbekistan in this area.

President Islam Karimov said that the weather conditions were not favourable this year as in previoes years, but the farmers’ hard work helped to overcome these obstacles.

Uzbek leader said that over 12.7 million tonnes of organic fertilizers were used at grain fields, which makes up over 11 tonnes per hectare.

Islam Karimov said that average yield in Ferghana and Andijan regions was 62 centners, Samarkand region – 61, Bukhara and Namangan regions – 60, Kashkadarya region – 58, Tashkent region -57, Navoi region – 55, etc.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that the farmers will keep 5.117 million tonnes of grain or 60% of the crop.

Uzbekistan’s GDP grows by 8.1% in 1H

Gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan grew by 8.1% in the first half of 2014, a session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan dedicated to social-economic development of the country in the first half of 2014 said on 16 July 2014.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the volume of GDP exceeded 61 trillion soums in the reporting period. (Currency rates of CB from 17.07.2014   1$= 2324.10 soums)

Share of small businesses in the GDP made up 43.9%. Share of services in the GDP grew from 52.4% in the first half of 2013 to 52.7% in the same period of 2014.

Industrial production rose by 8.1% in January-June 2014, agriculture production – 6.9%, investments into fixed capital – 10.8% (in US dollar equivalent – 12.8%), construction works – 17.4%, retail trade turnover – 13.7% and market services – 14.2%.

Uzbekistan produced over 8 million tonnes of grain. Some 4,486 individual houses on standard projects from planned 11,000 were commissioned in 2014.

The state budget was executed with 0.1% surplus to GDP. The inflation rate did not exceed the forecasted volume.

In the reporting period, foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan exceeded US$14 billion and rose by 6.3% year-on-year.

The exports of Uzbekistan reached US$7.22 billion (+8% year-on-yea) and imports – US$6.74 billion (+4.6%). Foreign trade surplus reached US$482.1 million.

Uzbekistan created 506,400 new jobs within the programme on creation of new jobs and employment in the first half of 2014, of which 303,200 or 59.9% were created in rural areas.

Over 3.1 trillion soums were directed to implementation of the state programme “The Year of Healthy Children” to protect maternity ad childhood, education, sports, etc.

Road maps for about 144 insolvent enterprises were implemented and financial and economic conditions at 109 enterprises were improved. They produced goods and rendered services for 3.1 trillion soums and exported goods for about US$118 million.

Over 1,330 old equipments were updated at the large enterprises. The prime cost at production decreased by8.9% in average.

In past six months of 2014, the country completed implementation of 64 projects with total cost of US$680 million, which were included to investment programme for 2014. About 1,651 new production objects were commissioned.

About 86 state assets were realized for 25.5 billion soums to small businesses and about 19,400 unused state objects were rented.

The bank issued loans for 4.8 trillion soums in January-June 2014, which rose by 1.3 times year-on-year. Share of small businesses in industry rose from 27% to 28.4%, employment – from 75.8% to 76.4%.

The World Bank estimated GDP per capita of Uzbekistan at 5340 dollars

Uzbekistan clinched the 66th place on the volume of gross domestic product based on purchasing power parity in 2013.

The World Bank issued a rating of countries on the volume of gross domestic product (GDP) based on purchasing power parity (PPP).

According to the rating of the World Bank, Uzbekistan was on the 66th place on the size of the GDP based on PPP with the figure of US$156.256 billion.

In 2012, Uzbekistan was on the 66th place on the size of the GDP based on PPP with the figure of US$106.931 billion.

The World Bank also issued data on the volume of the economies of the world countries based on their GDPs in 2013.

In line with the date of the bank, Uzbekistan’s GDP made up US$56.796 billion and holds 74th place in the world. Uzbekistan’s GDP was at US$51.113 billion and held 74th place in the world in 2012.

GDP per capita makes up US$1,878 in 2013, which grew by 9.2% compared to 2012 (US$1,716.5). Uzbekistan holds 126th place on this figure.

According to the bank, Uzbekistan is on the 43rdplace in the world on number of population. Uzbekistan had 30.241 million people in 2013, the World Bank’s data shows.

Purchasing power parity (PPP) is an economic theory and a technique used to determine the relative value of currencies, estimating the amount of adjustment needed on the exchange rate between countries in order for the exchange to be equivalent to (or on par with) each currency’s purchasing power.

V Meeting of the Foreign Ministers Dialogue “Central Asia plus Japan”

The regular fifth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting within the framework of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue was held on July 16, 2014 in Bishkek. The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov arrived in Bishkek for the participation in this event.

Within the scope of the event the Uzbek Foreign Minister held negotiations with Fumio Kishida and Erlan Abdilbaev, Foreign Ministers of Japan and Kyrgyzstan. The sides discussed practical aspects of cooperation in the framework of the Dialogue, exchanged opinions on the conditions and prospects for the development of bilateral relations, the Ministry of Uzbekistan said.

A delegation of Uzbekistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held negotiations with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Fumio Kishida and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev in Bishkek, Kyryz Republic, on 16 July.

The delegation of Uzbekistan arrived in Bishkek to participate at the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Dialogue “Central Asia –Japan”, which takes place in Bishkek.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the sides considered practical aspects of interactions within the Dialogue “Central Asia –Japan” and exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of developing of bilateral relations.
