Uzbekistan’s GDP makes up 61.056 trln. soums in 1H
The volume of gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan made up about 61.056 trillion soums in the first half of 2014, or grew by 8.1% year-on-year, according to preliminary data. (Currency rates of CB from 08.08.2014 1$= 2336.20 soums)
According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the industrial production rose by 8.1% in the reporting period and reached 34.658 trillion soums.
In the first half of 2013, the volume of production of agriculture goods rose by 6.9% year-on-year and reached 15.311 trillion soums. The investments into fixed capital reached 15.014 trillion soums or grew by 10.8% year-on-year.
The volume of constructions works increased by 17.4% year-on-year in January-June 2014 and reached 9.394 trillion soums.
About 637.4 million tonnes of freight were transported in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2014, which rose by 4.6% year-on-year. The freight turnover reached 40.239 billion tonnes-km (+2.5%).
Passenger transportation hit 3.437 billion people in January-June 2014. The growth rate made up 4.7% year-on-year. The passenger turnover rose by 5.1% to 45.8 million passenger-km.
Retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan made up 25.91 trillion soums in the first half of 2014, which grew by 14.7% year-on-year. The volume of paid services rose by 14.2% year-on-year to 36.268 trillion soums in January-June 2014.
In the reporting period, foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan exceeded US$13.856 billion and rose by 6.3% year-on-year.
The exports of Uzbekistan reached US$7.22 billion (+8% year-on-yea) and imports – US$6.74 billion (+4.6%). Foreign trade surplus reached US$482.1 million.

The memorandum on the new transport corridor has been signed
The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, took part in the meeting of the foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Oman Sultanate, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan on August 6, 2014 in Mascate, Oman.
The foreign Ministers of four countries signed a Memorandum of understanding for the entry into force of the Agreement on the establishment of a transport corridor Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman, the Foreign Ministry said.
The implementation of this document, as emphasized at the meeting, will be a landmark event in the interregional relations, significantly expanding the mutually beneficial relations between the countries of the vast region and giving a powerful impetus to the economic development of member countries.

The Uzbek-Japanese business forum
In the course of the visit of the delegation of Japanese business circles headed by Mamoru Sekiyama, the Vice-President of “Marubeni” Corporation, an Uzbek-Japanese business forum has been hosted in Tashkent
The event was attended by representatives of ministries, departments, associations and companies of Uzbekistan and Japan.
During the business-forum the presentation of economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan, prospective project proposals in the field of oil and gas, petrochemicals, electrical engineering, information and communication technologies have been hold.
The sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation in various sectors of the economy, opportunities of investment cooperation, including FIEZ “Navoi” and PPE “Angren”.
At the present time, 12 enterprises with participation of Japanese investments, including one with a 100% Japanese capital operate in Uzbekistan. The main spheres of activity of these enterprises are trading operations, services in the field of transport, tourism and health, mechanical engineering and metal working, light industry.
According to the results of the business forum, participants noted that this event was a good opportunity for representatives of Uzbek and Japanese business to establish and further strengthen mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation.
