Informational announcement about a joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan

A joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in the city of Tashkent on 8 September 2016 with the participation of deputies of the Legislative Chamber and members of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, invited members of the Cabinet of Ministers, the heads of ministries and departments and representatives of other organizations and mass media.

The session began with a minute of silence to honour the memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov.

At the joint session of the chambers of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the issue of temporarily placing the exercise of the responsibilities and powers of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was considered.

During the joint session, the Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, N.T.Yuldoshev, put forward a proposal on the advisability of temporarily placing the exercise of the responsibilities and powers of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh. M. Mirziyoyev, taking into account his work experience of many years in leading positions in bodies of state administration and government and respect among the population.

This proposal from the Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, N.T.Yuldoshev, had been approved by the Kengash (council) of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which was taken cognizance of.

The leaders of the factions of political parties, deputies and senators, taking into consideration the need to keep stability, to ensure public security and law and order and to effectively resolve the most important issues of the socio-political and socio-economic development of the country in the current conditions, supported the proposal of the Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, N.T.Yuldoshev,

The Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a joint resolution on temporarily placing the exercise of the responsibilities and powers of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh. M. Mirziyoyev,

To the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan it was recommended that this commission should arrange the conduct of elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in complete conformity with the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

With this, the joint session of the chambers of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan completed its work.

September 12 announced day-off

On September 9, 2016, interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoev signed a Resolution “On celebrating Eid al-Adha”.

Taking into account the address of the Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan on the coincidence of the first day of Eid al-Adha with September 12 (Monday), September 12 has been declared a holiday.

The document has entrusted the Republican funds “Nuroniy”, “Mahalla” and other relevant departments, public organizations with the organization of necessary events at a high level, in accordance with national values of our people.

National broadcasting company of Uzbekistan, National Information Agency of Uzbekistan and other mass media are recommended to widely cover the events associated with the celebration of Eid al-Adha.

ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

Presidential elections to be held on 4 December

New presidential elections in Uzbekistan will be held on 4 December, the chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said.

CEC adopted a corresponding decision on holding presidential elections on 9 September, he said.

According to CEC, the elections of the President of Uzbekistan will be held on Sunday, 4 December 2016.

In this connection, Central Election Commission announced about launch of presidential election campaign in Uzbekistan from 9 September.

New elections will be held in connection with the death of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

XV Paralympic Games

Uzbek athletes win 8 medals in the first day of Paralympics

On the first day of Paralympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, our Paralympic athletes have won 8 medals at once. They took third place in the team event with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Judokas Sherzod Namozov in weight category up to 60 kg and Utkir Nigmatov in weight category up to 66 kg, as well as athlete Husnitdin Norbekov in the discus throw brought gold medals to the treasury of our team.

Swimmers Kirill Pankov and Muslimahon Odilova Silver pleased us with silver medals in 100 meters butterfly.

Judoca Sevinch Salayeva, as well as swimmers Muzaffar Tursunhuzhaev and Fotimahon Amilova won bronze medals.

32 Paralympic athletes represent our country at the Paralympic Games. The games will last until September 18 in Brazil.
