The Newly Interpreted ‘Maisara’

The Tashkent State Theater of Musical Comedy (the Operetta) opens its 42nd season premiering a two-act musical comedy ‘Our Maisara.’

The image of mischievous and quick-witted Maisara that has already went iconic, is in the focus of playwrights and composers for a long time. In the 20th century the first Uzbek national comic opera by Suleyman Yudakov ‘The Tricks of Maisara’ was created. The opera is even now in the repertoire of the Alisher Navoi State Academic Grand Theater of Opera and Ballet. In the interpretation of the Theater of Musical Comedy it has got a new appearance.

In the play, as a tribute to the work that becomes the national classics, sounds the overture from the famous opera. The similarities at that come to end. Music blended with fine Eastern motifs is written by the composer Anvar Ergashev. Author of the play, based on the libretto, is Tashkent-based writer Ariadna Vasilyeva.

Two casts with best actors of the theater, as well we young talents get involved in the musical comedy staged by the theater director Sergey Kaprielov.

The staging has lots of scenic assets. Unconventional and mobile decorations add some vibrancy to the play. Breathtaking dances and dazzling national costumes of characters are also look spectacular.

“I consider the character of Maisara is quite modern, as she is very vigorous, and she works for happiness in the family and her life despite all challenges she faces,” Kaprielov says. “I believe the play goes well with connoisseurs of the musical comedy.”
