The volume of cargo transported in Uzbekistan during the first half made up 637.4 million tons

In January-June 2014, the volume of cargo transported through all types of transport made up 637.4 mln. tons. that is 104.6% to the level of January-June 2013. However, the cargo turnover made 40.2 bln.tn.-km. or to the level of January-June 2013 – 102.5%.

Road transport carried 571.8 mln. tons. cargo, what is 4.9% more than in January-June 2013. Cargo turnover increased by 7.5% and 12.5 bln.tn.-km.

The freight turnover of motor transport of individual entrepreneurs exceeded the level of January-June 2013 by 7.5% and amounted to 9.3 bln.tn.-km. The share of private carriers in total freight turnover of motor transport amounted to 74.2%, which is similar to last year.

The shipment of cargo by air transport amounted to 10.7 thousand tons.

The freight turnover of main pipelines increased by 0.5% and amounted to 16.1 bln.tn.-km.

Passenger transportation through all types of transport in comparison with January-June 2013 increased by 4.7% and amounted to 3437.2 million. Passenger traffic increased by 5.1% and reached 45.8 bln.pass.-km.

Transportation of passengers and passenger subway in comparison with January-June 2013 decreased by 6.7%.

Meeting of the Central Election Commission

The Central Election Commission has convened for a regular session. The meeting was chaired by the CEC chief M.Abdusalomov. Members of the Commission discussed the issue related to the establishment of the Republican Press Center for the cover of 2014 elections.

In order to prepare for the forthcoming elections and their organized conduct with adherence to the principles of publicity, create necessary conditions to the representatives of national and foreign mass media for them to cover the process of preparations for elections and the course of elections, and securing the timely reception and dissemination of information, in accordance with Laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the Openness of Activities of Government and Management Bodies, as well as other legislative acts, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Republican Press Center for the cover of elections 2014.

The press center has been tasked, as the definition of one of its principal objectives suggests, with supplying the representatives of local and foreign media with official data and information materials related to the preparation and conduct of elections. The Republic Press Center for the cover of elections 2014 has been housed in the building of the National Press Center of Uzbekistan at: 16, Navoi Street, Tashkent. Necessary conditions have been created in the facility for the professional work of journalists to cover all the stages of the electoral process in domestic and foreign mass media.

Representatives of media willing to cover the course of elections should get accredited at the Central Election Commission in a due procedure. The accreditation procedure can be learned on the CEC’s official website at www.elections.uz. Accredited journalists are going to have an opportunity to attend briefings and press conferences held by the Central Election Commission.

The CEC meetings participants also considered the course of execution of the Action Plan for the preparations and conduct of elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional, district and municipal Kengashes (Councils) of people’s representatives in 2014. It was stressed that all the actions as part of the implementation of this Plan are carried out in strict compliance with requirements of the electoral legislation.

Other issues pertinent to the Commission’s powers were also discussed at the meeting.

The World Bank and the International Fund for saving the Aral sea has signed a Memorandum of understanding

The World Bank and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for saving the Aral sea has signed a Memorandum of understanding that will strengthen the cooperation in improving the management of water resources, socio-economic and ecological situation in the Central Asian region.

The Memorandum was signed by Shavkat Khamraev, acting Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for saving the Aral sea (EC-IFAS) and Saroj Kumar Jha, World Bank regional director for Central Asia.

The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation in the development of a series of events from the third Aral sea basin Program to assist the States-founders of IFAS (the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) in improving the welfare of the population of Central Asia through improved environmental and water situation and the achievement of sustainable development in the Aral sea basin.

“Signed today the Memorandum raises the cooperation between the World Bank and IFAS to a new level. Together we have committed, by definition, a number of important activities that will support the well-being of millions of people who depend on the flow of the rivers of Amudarya and Syrdarya”, -said Saroj Kumar. – This work is important for all economies in the region due to the emergence of new issues in water management associated with stable economic growth and climate change. We are pleased to work in partnership with the Executive Committee of IFAS, which plays an important unifying role in working together to overcome these new challenges and opportunities to improve water resources management”.

The World Bank and the EC-IFAS will cooperate in the identification of potential regional and national investment projects and technical assistance, including analytical work, knowledge sharing and capacity building in the countries-members of the IFAS. These projects will be aimed at the exchange of data at the regional level and the development of management information systems, improved and more efficient use of water resources, improving the safety of dams and mitigate disaster risk.

To determine the scale and design of potential regional and national projects, the World Bank and the EC-IFAS will work in close cooperation and coordination with the countries-members of the IFAS and regional institutions, in particular with the Interstate Coordination of Water Commission (ICWC), the International Commission on sustainable development (ICSD) and the Regional centre of hydrology (RCH).

Uzbekistan’s Initial Medals in Asian Games 2014

The first day of the 17th summer Asian Games brought initial medals to our national team.

The weightlifter Mahliyo Toghaeva earned a bronze medal in the 48Kg weight category. Her overall performance totaled 187 kilograms.

Uzbekistan’s celebrated judoka Mirzahid Farmonov also became winner of a bronze medal in the weight category of up to 66Kg.
