export

By the end of the current year, farmers of Fergana region of Uzbekistan intend to export fruits and vegetables for more than $400 million.

The farms of the region have planned to procure a total of 1.95 million tons of vegetables, fruits, grapes, melons and potatoes during this season. Companies from Russia and Asia promise to be the major importers of the products.

Such a performance was achieved by reducing cotton crops and grain cultures, and transfer of the released lands for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. Modern agricultural technologies, drip irrigation, sorting and packaging equipment has played an important role. The demand for Uzbek agricultural products abroad is great, especially in Siberia and the Far East, for their environmental purity and safety, so farmers will keep increasing production volumes.

The producers are currently actively expanding orchards, the total area of which has already exceeded 50,000 hectares. The greenhouse economy has been growing concurrently with over 8,840 greenhouses in the region.

Farmers concern of quality characteristics of products, because a customer will always choose fruits and vegetables primarily by their appearance. Establishment of a network of refrigerating warehouses and sorting and packaging logistics centers has been in progress in the region. 180 warehouses with a total capacity of simultaneous storage of more than 51,000 tons are already in action. There are already operating. 16 new freezers for 11.500 tons have been built over the last year alone.

Today, Uzbekistan exports more than 180 kinds of fresh and processed fruit and vegetable products to more than 80 countries. By the end of the year, it is planned to deliver over 1.27 million tons of fruits and vegetables for $1.37 billion. By the end of 2020, the government intends to increase exports of fresh and processed fruit and vegetable products by more than 2.7 times, including canned food, concentrates, juices – by 2.5 times.

Guntis Ulmanis: I Have Fond Memories of Our First Meeting

Latvia’s first President Guntis Ulmanis, speaking about relations between the Uzbek and Latvian peoples, stressed that they are time-tested and have always been distinct with mutual respect, support and the absence of any disagreement or awkward issues.

“I have fond memories of our first meeting with the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov during his state visit to Latvia in June 1995, when we exchanged views with confidence and trust on how and in what direction our independent nations should advance. Back then, Islam Karimov said that every country should have its own path of development, and that he will make every effort to turn Uzbekistan from once agrarian republic into a modern industrialized country with a rapidly growing economy.

“Today we see that Islam Karimov’s aspirations, efforts and endeavors are put into practice and are producing results in increasing the well-being of the population, achieving strong performance in the areas of healthcare, education and sports, marshaling major reforms in the fields of economy, industry, agriculture and services, and in bolstering the standing of Uzbekistan in the international arena.

“From our conversations with Islam Karimov I always remember his words that for the establishment and consolidation of a young state and its successful development, important are political stability, a strong will of the country’s leadership, peace and security.

“Today, Uzbekistan’s role in ensuring peace, security and stability in the Central Asian region is undeniable. The republic, adhering to secular and democratic principles, condemns any manifestation of terrorism and extremism and strongly opposes these negative phenomena.

“Uzbekistan pursues independent foreign policy aimed at advancing and cementing mutually advantageous cooperation with other countries, on the one hand confirms the intention to protect and defend the national interests, and on the other hand vows peaceful, balanced and well thought-out policy. It is well known that in order to consolidate this approach, Uzbekistan at the legislative level approved the concept of foreign policy, which provides for non-accession to military-political blocs, non-admission of military bases of foreign states in the country and bans the participation of Uzbek troops in combat operations abroad. If we recall the challenges our countries faced in the wake independence and recovery, it is impossible not to note the importance of Uzbekistan’s achievement, including the preservation of interethnic harmony and religious tolerance. For the representatives of more than 130 ethnic groups living in this country, equal opportunities are created. For them, Uzbekistan was and remains their Motherland.
