DECEMBER 4 – THE ELECTIONS OF PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

Narimon Umarov’s meeting with voters of Sirdaryo Region

The candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Narimon Umarov, met voters of Sirdaryo Region on 14 November.

The meeting, which took place in the format of video conference, was opened by the leader of Adolat Social Democratic Party deputies’ group in the Sirdaryo regional council of people’s deputies, S.Elmurodov.

Yu.Usmonova, authorised representative of the candidate for President, familiarized those gathered with his biography.

Candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Narimon Umarov made a speech expounding his electoral programme.

He noted that as a result of large-scale reforms implemented in the years of independence, Sirdaryo Region’s socio-economic potential had risen, that the share of industry in the gross regional product was increasing and that the population’s wellbeing was rising with every passing year.

In the candidate’s electoral programme, the following issues are given priority significance: the building of a fair democratic state and strong civil society, the ensuring of the supremacy of law, the further strengthening macro-economic stability, the reinforcement of citizen’s social security and the modernization and diversification of the economy.

Special attention is paid in the programme to such tasks as more local production of goods, developing the export-oriented economy, increasing the competitiveness of locally-produced goods on world and regional markets and keeping the balance between export and import. The effective use of untapped possibilities for the active attraction of peoples’ spare money and the available funds of small business and entrepreneurial entities to the banking sector will make it possible to channel additional investment and financial resources into the development of the economy, the candidate’s programme notes.

The candidate also put forward proposals to resolve ecological issues, including tackling problems that are typical of Sirdaryo Region and that relate to difficult natural conditions, close groundwater occurrence and high soil salinity.

At the meeting, a deputy of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, U.Holov; the chief of a department of Gulistan state university, R.Mahmudov; the chairperson of the Sirdaryo regional council of the Adolat Social-Democratic Party; D.Abdullayeva; the chief doctor of the Khavat unified railways hospital, G.Rayimnazarov; a teacher of the Gulistan vocational college of pre-schoool education and services, D.Umrzoqova; and others expressed their opinions on the electoral programme of the candidate. They called on voters to take an active part in the forthcoming 4 December 2016 elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Hatamjon Ketmonov’s meeting with voters of Samarqand Region

The candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Uzbekistan People’s Democratic Party, Hatamjon Ketmonov, met voters of Samarqand Region on 14 November.

The meeting, which took place in the format of video conference, was opened by a deputy of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, A.Kirgizboyev.

The candidate’s authorised representative, S.Arziqulov, familiarized those gathered with his biography.

Candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Hatamjon Ketmonov made a speech about his electoral programme.

He said that in the years of independence Samarqand had become more prosperous and beautiful, which was a result of a great deal of creative work carried out under the leadership of the country’s First President and that of the people’s selfless labour. The quality of life changed, and the self-consciousness of residents of Samarqand rose. They cherish their history and values, and with their work, progressive ideas and initiative, they are making a worthy contribution to the country’s development.

Special attention is paid in the candidate’s programme to the issue of further raising the effectiveness of state and public control over the formation of prices on socially significant goods and essential services so that rises in their prices and tariffs do not exceed inflation levels, and to the issue of improving the mechanism for channelling part of funds coming from the privatization of state property into forming housing funds for the purpose of ensuring housing affordability.

The candidate proposed improving the transport infrastructure in order to prevent traffic jams on streets and roads of big cities that arise as a result of an increase in the number of vehicles in the country. He also proposed making major repairs on pavements and building eco-friendly cycling lanes.

The programme specifies such tasks as strengthening the state’s role in implementing a strong social policy, limiting the commercialization of leading social spheres while observing this priority, raising the business sector’s responsibility in issues relating to the provision of reliable social guarantees to all members of society in line with the slogan “Our main goal is strong social security”, as well as developing the system of inclusive education, including supplying the necessary special literature and booklets to children with disabilities and providing students with limited physical abilities with opportunities to study at higher educational institutions.

A student of Samarqand state university, N.Umrov; the director of general education school No 20 in Kattaqorqhon District, Z.Berdiyeva; the chairperson of the Said neighbourhood citizens’ gathering in the city of Samarqand, M.Davronova; and others expressed their opinions on the electoral programme of the candidate. They called on voters to take an active part in the forthcoming elections that are of important significance to the Motherland’s future development and to raising the people’s wellbeing.

Surkhandarya region intends to reduce over 67,000 hectares of sown areas of cotton by the end of 2019

The resolution is aimed at the optimization of agricultural crops, taking into account soil and climatic conditions of the region, efficient use of land and water resources, and strengthening of economic and financial sustainability of farms.

The lands released from cotton will be sown with vegetables on 39,100 hectares, potatoes on 5,200 hectares, intensive gardens on 9.7 hectares, fodder on 5,200, oil-bearing plants on 4,900 hectares, and other crops on 2,800 hectares.

As estimated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources Management, these measures should decrease the gross cotton harvesting by 64,800 tons in 2019, and concurrently increase the volume of production of other crops.

In addition, it is planned to replace old and inefficient orchards and vineyards with new plantations on a total area of 8,770 hectares next year, in order to increase volumes of fruit and vegetable production.
