Information about a joint session of the chambers of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis (parliament) devoted to Presidential inauguration

This joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis (parliament) devoted to Presidential inauguration took place in Tashkent on 14 December 2016.

The ceremony was attended by members of the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, leaders of ministries and departments, members of the Central Electoral Commission, the heads of foreign states’ embassies and international organizations’ representative offices and representatives of domestic and foreign media.

The chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, M.Abdusalomov, opened the joint session. He said that Uzbek citizens had displayed their high political culture and feeling of involvement in the Motherland’s destiny and actively participated in the 4 December 2016 elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Five international organizations and nearly 600 observers from 46 states observed the electoral processes. This is clear evidence that the presidential elections were held transparently completely conforming to international standards and democratic requirements, within the national electoral law.

In the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which were held at a high level, Candidate from the movement of entrepreneurs and businessmen – the Uzbekistan Liberal-Democratic Party (UzLiDeP) Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev won garnering 88.61 per cent of the votes cast in the elections.

On behalf of those in the hall and voters, the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission cordially congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his election to the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and handed him the official document of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a certificate from the Central Electoral Commission.

In accordance with Article 92 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took the oath of office of the President of Uzbekistan: “I do solemnly affirm that I will faithfully serve the nation of Uzbekistan, strictly follow the republic’s Constitution and laws, guarantee citizens’ rights and liberties and conscientiously carry out the duties of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

Then the national anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan was played.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev made a speech at the ceremony.

With this, the Presidential inauguration ceremony concluded.

After a break, the joint session of the chambers of Oliy Majlis looked at the issue of confirmation of a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev recommended the candidature of Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Abdulla Aripov has been working in the position of deputy Prime Minister of the country.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said: “We have thought about this issue a great deal and held many discussions. We have also had a thorough discussion with the leadership and active members of the Uzbekistan Liberal-Democratic Party. Taking into consideration all the views and opinions expressed during these discussions, I recommend for this position the candidature of Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov who has many years’ experience of working in administrative positions and who has worked in the position of deputy Prime Minister for 11 years.”

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized those gathered with A.Aripov’s biography and spoke about the candidate’s professional experience, knowledge and human qualities.

Those who made speeches at the session supported priorities specified in the speech of the President. They also approved of the nomination of A.Aripov to the position of Prime Minister. Oliy Majlis’s chambers adopted a resolution confirming Abdulla Aripov in the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

With this the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis concluded.

In 2017-2020, the government of Uzbekistan plans to invest $295 million in the development of Tashkent underground metro

The development of the metropolitan subway network envisages the implementation of two projects for the construction of eight stations 10 km in length. The works will be financed from the government budget and the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.

Works are currently underway on the completion of two stations in Yunusabad district. The personnel have already dug a pit for one of the metro stations. The construction of a new line for the so-called light terrestrial line to Sergeli, which will consist of six stations, has been launched as well.

The projects on the development of the Tashkent subway for the coming years envisage the construction of a total of 30 new stations. For example, the extension of the Uzbekistan line to Quyliq, one of the largest metropolitan markets, looks quite promising. It will be added with five new stations. Another destination will be developed through the extension of Chilanzar subway line from the terminal station Buyuk Ipak Yuli. It is intended to build three stations in the direction of Karasu.

In the coming years, the Tashkent subway is likely to get even more social. The government is currently considering the opportunity of providing free travel in the subway for pensioners from 2017. In order to avoid underground jams during rush hours, it is projected to grant the right to free travel for the elderly from 10.00 to 16.00.

Within a month, the entire Uzbekistan has been immersed in the wonderful world of art

The capital’s theaters toured to the regions, and Tashkent hosted the concert by famous musicians from around the world.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Culture and Sports initiated the first ‘Oltin Kuz’ (Golden Autumn) International Festival of Arts. From October 28 to December 3 the concerts of orchestras and folklore-ethnographic ensembles were held around the country, along with performances of pop singers and theater troupes, as well as the master classes.

These events turned a great present for art connoisseurs. But apart from this, the festival became an unforgettable, valuable and interesting for music groups and theater troupes themselves. They enriched the ranks of their fans, talked with young musicians, actors and directors, and using the art they reach out the hearts of people living in remote areas of the country.

As it was reported, the festival was opened by the concert featuring young, but already reached certain heights musicians from Latvia, France and Switzerland. The concerts of all members of the Association of National symphonic orchestras, chamber and folk instrument orchestras were held as well. For example, the Turkistan chamber orchestra held a recital of the composer Felix Yanov-Yanovsky, whose works are performed outside of Uzbekistan as well. The audience enjoyed the long–awaited evening of jazz music performed by the Botir Zokirov Variety-Symphonic Orchestra. The biggest surprise of the festival was the involvement of famous local and foreign musicians. One of the concerts at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan by the Soloists of Uzbekistan Orchestra was conducted by the regent of the choir of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Vladimir Gorbik. Several concerts by the National Symphonic Orchestra were conducted by the internationally renowned Uzbek musician-conductor Aziz Shokhakimov. One of these concerts, held in the Turkistan Palace, was dedicated to the solo performance of the youngest representative of a dynasty of musicians – Vladimir Svredlov-Ashkenazy. He performed such masterpieces of classical music, as the seventh symphony by Beethoven and the first concerto for piano and orchestra by Tchaikovsky.

Another one of our compatriot got renowned abroad Tigran Shiganyan conducted two concerts, which presented the solo performances of the violist Yuri Gandelsman form the USA, the violinist Igor Kalnin and the pianist Rochelle Sennett.

The festival got involved not only of Tashkent but regional stages as well. So, the Hamid Alimdjon Samarkand Regional Theater of Musical Drama hosted the concert ‘Melodies of the Valley’, which presented classic songs and melodies performed by the Maqom ensemble. The theater also hosted the opera ‘Sadoqat’ (Fidelity) performed by the Alisher Navoi State Academic Grand Theater troupe. The Alisher Navoi Theater troupe was not the only who performed in other stages. Thus, the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater presented the performances Ko’ngil’ (The Soul) and ‘Qirmizi Olma’ (Red Apple) in the Ferghana Valley. The troupe of the Uzbek State Theater of Satire played guest performances in Samarkand and Navoi regions, while Karakalpakstan residents enjoyed the performances of the Muqimiy Uzbek State Musical Theater. The Theater of Operetta and the Youth Theater of Uzbekistan visited Bukhara with their plays.

It should be noted about the concerts of the famous Italian singer Toto Cutugno, and the famous Italian opera singer Alessandro Safina, who performed with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Uzbekistan. Both the long-awaited and grand events, held in the Uzbekistan Palace of International Forums, aroused great interest in the audience.

The Uzbekistan Palace of International Forums also hosted a concert by the National Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Aziz Shohakimov, which crowned a large-scale festival, contributing to the popularization of the classical world and national music, cultural enrichment of Uzbek citizens, as well as the exchange of experience among the young and experienced artists.
