Meeting with the Head of the Mission of ODIHR/OSCE

On March 4, 2015 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held a meeting with Cayetana de Zulueta, the head of the Mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (ODIHR/OSCE) for monitoring the elections in Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed the topical issues of cooperation in the framework of preparation and holding the presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan on March 29.

As has been emphasized, the election campaign, which entered into its active phase, is taking place in the conditions of democratic renewal and liberalization, political stability and economic development, religious tolerance and interethnic harmony in the country. To hold the elections, 9058 polling stations, including 44 at the diplomatic missions abroad are established, are provided with all necessary facilities for citizens to express their will freely.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on outstanding international issues and on the activity of the Mission of observers of ODIHR/OSCE observation Mission, which officially began its work in Uzbekistan on February 23 this year.

Uzbekistan and UAE to implement projects for US$120m

A delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade Elyor Ganiev visited the UAE on 1-3 March 2015 to participate in the second session of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, headed the delegation of the UAE. The UAE delegation included representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, finance, water management and environment protection, departments on economic development and transport, trade-industrial chambers, leading the UAE companies, the MFERIT said.

Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri said that the fruitful visit of high level to the UAE in March 2008 created firm bases for development and strengthening of bilateral relations, first of all, in economic directions. In this connection, organization of the session of the commission is considered as opportunity to joint development of proposals and concrete measures on expanding trade, investment and financial relations.

He also highly rated economic reforms in Uzbekistan directed at diversifying of sectors of economy and modernizing industry, creating favourable investment climate and expanding opportunities for businesses.

The minister said that the UAE pays important attention and will do its best to expand trade and investment relations with Uzbekistan.

The session considered issues of expanding trade-economic relations, including proposals on increasing trade turnover, realizing investment projects on creating high technological production capacities in Uzbekistan, expanding financial-technical cooperation, interaction in tourism and transport sectors.

The sides reached agreement on adoption of joint programme of investment cooperation with leading UAE companies and organization of mutual visits of business circles, as well as realization of projects in financial and technical assistance for over US$119.5 million.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also met with Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Eissa Mohamed AL Suwaidi, officials of leading UAE organizations and companies. During the talks, the sides discussed issues of expanding bilateral cooperation in trade-economic, investment and finance sectors.

Foreign trade companies of the MFERIT signed export agreements with the UAE companies on supply of goods for US$73.9 million within the session of the commission.

Tashkent to host Bank Expo-2015 exhibition

The National Exhibition of banking services, technologies and equipment, BankExpo having many years of experience became a significant event in further reform and improvement of the stability of the financial and banking system of the country, as well as providing the possibility of organizing an effective dialogue between the participants of the banking sector in Uzbekistan, has demonstrated the important progress made in this field since the independence of the country.

It was noted that domestic banks today use high-tech developments that meet the requirements of a new generation of customers. Therefore, “BankExpo-2015” stands will represent modern banking and financial technologies and interactive services, namely Internet banking, information technology, which strengthen mutually beneficial partnership between the banking and financial institutions and their customers.

During the exhibition, commercial banks will be awarded certificates for the right to receive a preferential credit to small businesses and private entrepreneurship, industrial micro firms, farmers, as well as budding entrepreneurs who are in remote and densely populated areas, who won the competition projects to provide employment. Thereby, “BankExpo-2015” provides the participants and guests with an opportunity for exchange of information and experience on the achievements and prospects of development of the banking sector, as well as the expansion of mutually beneficial partnership between the banks and businesses.
