Uzbek Textiles Go for Exports
A new Uzbek-Thai joint venture, Fergana Oseana Textile, has been commissioned in Fergana.
Last year, the founders of the joint venture received a vacant building at ‘Farghonadavsuvmahsuspudrat’ state unitary enterprise upon the competition for the transfer of idle and vacant state property objects at zero cost under investment obligations.
The construction and renovation work at the building exceeded 15 billion soums (currency rates of CB RU from 06.04.2016, 1$= 2882.68 soums). Modern cotton processing and yarn production equipment worth 6 million euros was delivered and installed under the contract signed with the Thai company.
“The company is capable of processing 3,600 tons of raw cotton per year and manufacturing competitive yarn. We intend to export our products to European countries, Russia and China. The joint venture provided more than 200 new jobs, 110 of which are held by young specialists graduating from vocational colleges,” said Alisher Ortikov, head of the JV.

Uzbekistan: Grow and Deliver
Uzbekistan continues with efforts to develop a network of logistics centers for storage and transportation of fruits and vegetables. Four facilities will be commissioned this year. Deputy Chairman of the O’zulgurjisavdoinvest Association, Ravshan Hamidbekov, provided UT with details on the process:
Incorporating over 60 bases and wholesale trade enterprises, the Association has been engaged in the purchase and storage of fruits and vegetables, and stable provision of the population with them. At the same time, we attach importance to the construction, reconstruction and modernization of warehouses for food and agricultural products, and their up-to-date equipping. The association operates warehouses on the area of 116,000 square meters, and cold storages with a capacity of 75,000 tons.
Last year, Uzbekistan grew 12.5 million tons of vegetables and potatoes, 1.8 million tons of melons, 1.5 million tons of grapes, and 2.73 million tons of fruit. Some of them are stored in refrigerators to provide the domestic market and ensure exports in the fall-winter period.
Last year, Uzbekistan invested over 12.2 billion soums (currency rates of CB RU from 06.04.2016, 1$= 2882.68 soums) in the establishment of modern cold storages for conservation of agricultural products. The capacity of the established refrigerators totaled 16.500 tons. In 2011- 2014, domestic enterprises commissioned, upgraded and reconstructed cold stores totaling 68,000 tons. More than 30 billion soums was allocated for this purpose.
It is planned to establish four logistics centers this year for the efficient transportation of fruits and vegetables. The works have been launched in Andijan, Namangan, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions. The logistics centers will provide the ‘unified window’ services, so that any vendor could prepare all the documents in the shortest possible time. The centers will incorporate the enterprises for processing of agricultural products. That would save time and money of businessmen, who specialize in exporting finished food products. Seventeen similar facilities will appear in the country by the end of 2020.
Besides, we are planning to build 18 fruit and vegetable processing plants, and 10 manufactures of bread, confectionery, pasta products and milk processing shops this year. To this end, we have planted crops on more than 3,000 hectares, and laid intensive gardens on 166 hectares.
