The competition was organized under the auspices of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) with the support of the government of Uzbekistan, the National Olympic Committee, Ministry of culture and sports and Fencing Federation of the country, and was attended by over 1,500 athletes from 89 countries.

Two sets of medals in team tournaments in foil and sabre fencing were played on the final day of the competition. The final fight on swords among the national teams of Russia and South Korea was especially memorable. The leader changed almost after every battle. In the middle before the last lap, the Koreans have managed to create a comfortable gap – 30:24. The fate of the final “gold” of the championship was decided in the competition between Danilenko and Kim Soo-hwan. After the first missed blow, the Russian player spent five precise attacks and scored – 41:41! After each point conquered audience burst into applause, supporting both athletes. Then rivals twice alternately scored points for their team – 43:43. This sequence was later broken by the Korean fencer. After two final blows, South Korea fencers brought victory with a score 45:43.

After the last match of the championship the closing ceremony of the competition was held. The anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan and flags of our country and of the International Fencing Federation were lowered. In a solemn ceremony, the President of the French Fencing Federation was awarded the flag of the International Fencing Federation. It should be noted that the next World Fencing Championship among juniors and cadets will take place in France. These events truly became a triumph for the Italian national team, which won the hugest amount of gold medals and took the first place in the team standings.

– Tashkent is a beautiful city and competitions were organized at a very high level. At last year’s tournament, which took place in Tokyo, we failed to win a gold medal in the team competition, but in Tashkent, defending the honor of the Italian national team, we did it, – said a member of the Italian national team on fencing, winner of the gold medal Damiano Rosatelli.

Many participants noted a large-scale work, done for carrying out the championship of the world at a decent level. All conditions were created not only for athletes but also for their cultural activities.

– I am engaged on fencing since 6 years old, fencing is my life. I was dreaming that someday our country will host large events in fencing and those dreams came true. We are very grateful that we were supported by the President of the Republic, the government, the Olympic Committee, the Ministry of culture and sports. Many volunteers have rendered their assistance, and together we held this event at a high level. The championship was attended by about 1,500 athletes from 89 countries of the world, which, in turn, thanked the organizers and said that this was the best World Cup held ever. We are proud of it. We will do everything in order our athletes gain a new experience, and I hope that in the near future they will defend the honor of Uzbekistan at the world olympic games, -said the President of the Fencing Federation of Uzbekistan Sobirjon Ruziev.
