The social and economic development of Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2016

Uzbekistan put into operation 2.1 million square meters of habitations in the first quarter of 2016.

According to the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan, about 1.4 million square meters of habitations were commissioned in rural areas.

At the same time, about 205.2 km of water networks were constructed in January-March 2016, of which 162.3 km were launched in rural areas.

Uzbekistan produced goods for 981.3 billion soums (currency rates of CB RU from 04.05.2016, 1$= 2904.68 soums) in the first quarter of 2016 within the programme of localization of production of ready goods, spare materials and materials for 2015-2019.

According to the Uzbek Economy Ministry, the figure rose by 1.5 times compared to the same period of 2015. At the same time, estimated impact of import-replacement exceeded US$345 million.

Uzbekistan launched production of 37 new types of localized products in the first quarter of 2016, including petrochemical equipment and spare parts for conveyor equipment, speed meters for automobiles, etc.

Uzbekistan produced 53,100 tonnes of vegetables in the first quarter of 2016, which rose by 10.6% compared to the same period of 2015.

Uzbekistan exported 95,100 tonnes of fruits and vegetables, which also includes horticulture, produced in previous year.

According to the Uzbek Economy Ministry, Uzbekistan decreased soil, allocated to production of cotton, by 30,500 hectare. About 172,600 hectares were allocated to production of vegetables, 86,300 hectares – to potatoes and 26,300 hectares – melons.

The country created 5,200 hectares of new intensive gardens, reconstructed 5,700 hectares of gardens and 3,200 tonnes of vineyards. About 4,262 greenhouses were created at 163 hectares.

Uzbekistan created 16 new cold store cameras for storage of fruits and vegetables with the capacity of 105,500 tonnes.

About 664 projects on developing cattle, poultry, fishing and bee-keeping farms were implemented in the country.

In the result, total number of cattle reached 11.5 million heads (+5.8%). The country produced 425,800 tonnes of meat (+6.1%), 12,700 tonnes of fish (+10%), 1.595 million tonnes of milk (+6.4%), 1.18 billion units of eggs (+6.7%) and others.

The project of modernization of the domestic confectionery factory Lazzat has been underway in Uzbekistan. The Hong Kong Torutem Business Limited intends to invest at least $5 million in its refurbishment.

The company intends to invest funds in the establishment of production of caramel. Its main objective is to launch the modern facilities that are oriented at meeting the demand in the domestic market and exporting products to Russia and other countries of the region and South East Asia. Investors were interested in the convenient logistics, the benefits provided by the Uzbek government, large domestic market, and the opportunity of facilitated access to the CIS markets.

This year, they are going to invest in the development of production nearly $3 million. The project is scheduled for completion in 2017. After reaching full capacity, it will annually produce over 8,000 tons of caramel.

Hong Kong investors are not discouraged by instability in the global economy, and they intend to complete the project on time.

Uzbekistan produces more than 15,000 tons of candy, waffles, caramel, marmalade, halvah and other sweets annually. The country is home to more than 10,000 economic entities that produce food.

Uzavtoyol uses resources for 229.6bn soums in 1Q

Uzavtoyol carried out construction, capital and current repair, as well as exploitation works for 229.6 billion soums (currency rates of CB RU from 04.05.2016, 1$= 2904.68 soums) in the first quarter of 2016, which rose by 19.6% year-on-year.

According to the company, some 10 km of automobile roads of general use were reconstructed in the first quarter of 2016, which increased by 1.3% year-on-year.

Enterprises of Uzavtoyol carried out capital repair works of automobile roads of international and state, as well as local importance for 16.6 billion soums in January-March 2016. About 6 km of automobile roads of general use were repaired.

The company said it continued works on current repair and exploitation of 42,676 km of automobile roads, which are part of Uzbek national highway. About 161.5 billion soums were used in this direction.
